Esta semana coñecíamos a triste nova da morte de Samuel Ruiz, o funeral foi oficiado por Raúl Vera e aquí deixamos a homilía na súa lembranza:
Estas lecturas que hemos escuchado revelan a don Samuel como un hombre que vivió íntegramente el Evangelio. El texto del profeta Jeremías, de manera espléndida, revela su propia vida. La providencia de Dios quiso que hace cincuenta y un años, dos sacerdotes de la Diócesis de San Cristóbal de las Casas eligieran para él, el lema que utilizó en su escudo episcopal, que era precisamente “Para Construir y Plantar” que está tomado de este texto del profeta Jeremías.
Don Samuel fue como el profeta Jeremías, un hombre que vivió y experimentó la contradicción. Una persona cuyas acciones eran discutidas y condenadas por una parte de la sociedad, pero para los pobres y para quienes hemos trabajado junto con él, para ellos, don Samuel fue una luz potente en quien se cumplió íntegramente aquello que Dios le dijo al profeta: “Desde hoy te doy autoridad sobre las gentes y sobre los reinos, para extirpar y destruir, para perder y derrocar, para reconstruir y plantar” (Jer.1,10).
Don Samuel llegó a un Chiapas plagado de injusticias y de abusos contra el pueblo indígena y contra los pobres. Le tocó ver con sus propios ojos las espaldas de los hombres indígenas marcadas por el látigo de los finqueros; constató desde la palabra de los pobres indígenas, cuando él llegó a esa zona, que el salario para ellos era de tres centavos al día, y todavía se trataba de un salario que nunca se pagaba, pues existía la tienda de raya. También conoció a las muchachas indígenas sometidas a la “ley de la pernada”, es decir, el patrón, antes de que ellas llegaran al matrimonio, tenía que constatar, uniéndose a ellas, su virginidad.
Toda esta situación de injusticias, de abusos, de trato inhumano para los indios mayas, es lo que no sólo con su palabra de verdad, de justicia y de amor en su proclamación de la dignidad que tienen los hijos y las hijas de Dios denunció, sino sobre todo con la construcción de una Iglesia en la que puso los medios para que toda esa serie de injusticias y maltratos desaparecieran a través de las instancias que poco a poco se fueron construyendo, en donde por medio de la evangelización, quienes habían sido esclavos, quienes estaban sometidos, quienes no tenían voz, conocieran la dignidad que Dios les dio desde su nacimiento. Y esos mismos indígenas hombres y mujeres, por medio de su participación activa y la construcción de esas instancias, participaron en el cambio de las estructuras sociales, en las que se justificaba y se instrumentaba el trato inhumano que recibían.
De esta manera jTatic Samuel ayudó a que quienes eran oprimidos y humillados, se convirtieran como anuncia el profeta Isaías, en robles de justicia, reparadores y reconstructores de ciudades devastadas (Cf. Is. 61,3-4).
Todos y todas somos testigos, quienes colaboramos con él en Chiapas y quienes conocieron su obra desde otros espacios, de lo que significó para él este trabajo por la liberación de los pueblos mayas que viven en Chiapas. Entendemos perfectamente por el texto del profeta Jeremías de dónde le venía la fortaleza inquebrantable que lo caracterizó.
Como si estuvieran grabadas en su corazón estas palabras: “Mira que hoy te he convertido en plaza fuerte en pilar de hierro, en muralla de bronce, frente a toda esta tierra… Te harán la guerra, más no podrán contigo, pues contigo estoy para salvarte” (Jer. 1,18-19).
El texto de la Carta a los Romanos describe por boca de San Pablo el ánimo que caracteriza a los elegidos de Cristo: “¿Quién nos separará del amor de Cristo?, ¿La tribulación?, ¿La angustia?, ¿La persecución?, ¿El hambre?, ¿La desnudez?, ¿Los peligros?, ¿La espada?… En todo esto salimos vencedores gracias a Aquél que nos amó” (Rm. 8, 35.37)….
Hoy en la Pascua de jTatic, nosotros y nosotras estamos celebrando su triunfo, con la fuerza de Cristo, sobre todos estos obstáculos; él nos deja la herencia de la esperanza en un mundo diferente, en un México justo, en un México en el que reine la paz. Con su sabiduría de la vida, con su testimonio de fe, con su amor por la familia humana, nos dice: TIENEN QUE LUCHAR, TIENEN QUE SER VALIENTES, PUES EL TRIUNFO DEL BIEN SOBRE EL MAL ESTÁ ASEGURADO. QUE NO DECAIGA NUNCA SU FORTALEZA, QUE NO LES VENZA NUNCA EL DESÁNIMO.
El comienzo del Sermón de la Montaña que nos muestra el evangelio de Mateo con el discurso de las bienaventuranzas, nos demuestra la calidad del hombre que fue jTatic Samuel, ya que encarnó en toda su integridad la palabra de Jesús. Hoy, con toda verdad, podemos llamar a jTatic, bienaventurado. Por su identificación con los pobres y afligidos, por su perseverancia para vencer el mal a fuerza de bien, por las lágrimas que le vimos derramar al lado de los humillados víctimas de la crueldad humana a los que él les enseñó a trabajar por la justicia, liberándose de cualquier sentimiento de rencor y de cualquier movimiento de venganza, confiando en que el Señor, es la recompensa de los justos.
Él es un ejemplo de los hambrientos y sedientos de justicia; con todas sus fuerzas trabajó por desterrar la injusticia y suplantarla por la justicia. Con todas sus fuerzas mantuvo por encima de todo su lucha por el respeto a los derechos humanos y a la dignidad de todos y todas. No había sufrimiento que no tocara su corazón. Siempre ante quienes lo calumniaron, lo trataron de detener por los medios más ruines en este trabajo por el bien de la comunidad humana, don Samuel actuó siempre con misericordia ante ellos, esperando con paciencia que un día entendieran cuál sería el fin desastroso de sus vidas si seguían adheridos al mal, a sus ambiciones y a su egoísmo.
Don Samuel tuvo ojos para ver la imagen de Dios en cada uno de sus hermanos y hermanas porque tenía el corazón limpio. Y con toda verdad vemos que hasta el final de su vida se conservó como un auténtico hijo de Dios por su trabajo por la paz, que nace de la justicia y del amor.
Dichoso tú, jTatic Samuel, perseguido por la causa de la justicia, porque tuyo es hoy en plenitud, el Reino de los Cielos. Dichoso tú, jTatic Samuel, que fuiste objeto de injurias y calumnias; de innumerables persecuciones, de vituperios, de insultos por la causa de Jesús, que es la plenitud de la vida de los pobres, la plenitud de la vida para todos los seres humanos en esta tierra.
